A Happy Heart

“A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit” ~Proverbs 15:13

“A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit” ~Proverbs 15:13

Maybe people wear their heart on their sleeve. Our whole demeanor changes when we are upset - our shoulders slump and sag, our face is crestfallen, the light dims in our eyes. But, I think I could be a poster child for this verse. There is never any question about what my insides are all about - brain, heart, spirit, soul…they are connected to the muscles in my face. “Mom, what’s wrong?” “Nothing, why do you ask?” “Your face says it all. Now what’s wrong?” I can’t fake it.

The book of Proverbs is full of maxims, or wise sayings. This is one made me giggle: “A vegetarian meal served with love is better than a big, thick steak with a plateful of animosity.” ~Proverbs 15:17

The Proverbs are geared towards teaching humanity how to live with love for God foremost and love for others second. In fact, my most favorite verse of all is from Proverbs: Chapter 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will direct your path.” This has been my life verse and has saved me from a crushed spirit more times than I can count.

There are 31 chapters - why don’t you read a chapter a day for one month? That’s roughly 29 verses a day. God will use this, whether to calm you during the chaos of December, to encourage you when you are down, to build you up and make you wise! It will make you more like Jesus, Who is Wisdom Itself!

Have a blessed day!
