A Lamp for My Feet
“Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.” ~Psalm 119:105
Walking in the dark is not fun - especially when you don’t know the path. At summer camp when I was a teen, we used to sneak out at night and see if we could avoid getting caught. When the moon was shining bright, we felt confident and brave because we could see, but if it was overcast, everything was dark and scary - those adventures ended quickly, sometimes with a twisted ankle or arms covered in briar bush scratches.
Every time I read this verse, I think back to those days. We were so dumb to stumble around in the dark! We easily could have taken a flashlight with us! How about life? Isn’t it smart to use something to illuminate our journey? The psalmist is telling us that the word does exactly that! And the Word is Jesus Christ, Who is the light for the world.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” ~John 1:1,14; 8:12 “The God who said, "Out of darkness the light shall shine!" is the same God who made His light shine in our hearts, to bring us the knowledge of God's glory shining in the face of Christ.” ~2 Corinthians 4:6
Have a blessed day!
