A New Thing

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” ~Isaiah 43:18-19

This is a prophecy of Jesus! The whole chapter is God talking to Israel. He gives them a synopsis of their life as a nation, how He rescued them over and over, delivered them from themselves, essentially. But He reminds them that a Savior is coming and that their history is a prologue for the whole world, a signpost pointing to universal deliverance. The world is a wasteland and the Messiah is living water to cover and nourish, to transform and transfigure.

We, as believers, get the front row seats to view what Jesus does. Even now, there are pockets all over the world, in lost dark nations that are having visions of Jesus, Damascus moments. God is doing this! “Even the stones cry out if there is silence” (Luke 19:40) A few of us get the chance to physically assist - imagine how incredibly grateful these people are to receive scripture in their own language. The rest of us have the privilege to take part spiritually in prayer.

How often have we heard that we are the body of Christ? Isn’t this verse a perfect illustration of this? The body is one with the head. ONE with Christ! It almost too much take in. We take so much for granted. Oh God, remind us how much You love us. Let us be effective hands and feet of Your glorious Son, Who is the Way the Truth and the Life (John 14:6). Let the earth blossom with His living water. Turn this wasteland into a paradise. Increase our faith and enlarge our hope. In His Name, Amen!
