According to the Measure of Christ's Gift
“But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift” ~Ephesians 4:7
Speaking to strangers is terrifying. It puts me so outside my comfort zone that I feel like I’m watching a stranger interact. But let me hide behind a piano or art easel and time disappears. I feel God’s peace and joy and the knowledge that this is where I belong.
In the 4th book of Ephesians, Paul is teaching the new church how they should be, both as a whole and individually. “We are all one - maintain peace above everything” and then goes on to say that each of us has a gift - one that is to be used to grow the church. A superpower. This is something given to us (grace) and we are all unique.
I once wished that I could feel comfortable engaging in small talk, leading to a discussion about Jesus, but I then I realized that God had other things for me to do. Some gifts are flashier than others, but Paul tells us that all are equally important in God’s eyes. We are all members of the body of Christ and each has a job to do, whether the pinky toe or the thumb.
“It was He who gave gifts to people; he appointed some to be apostles, others to be prophets, others to be evangelists, others to be pastors and teachers. He did this to prepare all God's people for the work of Christian service, in order to build up the body of Christ. And so we shall all come together to that oneness in our faith and in our knowledge of the Son of God; we shall become mature people, reaching to the very height of Christ's full stature. ~Eph 4:11-13
