As the Deer Pants

Written by someone who hungers for God, who desires communion with Him above anything else. Scholars believe that David wrote this song during the flight from his beloved son, Absalom. He knew that God would supply nourishment and water, was assured that God would protect him, erase any scent of his tracks, as a stream provides for the deer. God was David's everything. Is God our everything? Or are we more interested in getting gifts wrapped, cookies baked and lights hung? Isn't it ironic that the season whose focus is Jesus provides more distractions from Him than any other time?

Lord, let us long for you. Make our hearts desire Your presence above all. Immerse us in Your radiant light and bathe us in Your Glory and let us see Your love's pure light. Amen

This song was inspired by Psalms 42:1. I wish audio could accompany these words - if you can, listen to this love song and worship Him.

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after thee
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship thee

You alone are my strength, my shield
To you alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship thee

You’re my friend and you are my brother
Even though you are a king
I love you more than any other
So much more than anything

Have a blessed day! 💙

  • Thank you for this devo! It brought back memories of when my teenage daughter would sing this after learning it at Youth Group. It’s beautiful and Jesus is The Air I breathe…He is my Everything! God Bless you💕
