Be Completely Humble and Gentle

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” ~Ephesians 4:2-3

Everyone has an ‘ouch’ verse and this is mine. Especially the part about making EVERY effort to keep peace. It seems that every time I get a bee in my bonnet about something, this verse shows up…everywhere. I love that God makes me aware of my thoughts that are out of line. He gives me a chance to correct them before my mouth gets involved.

Yes, there are times when I ignore Him - I want SO badly to say a juicy bit that the flaming fire of my tongue lets loose and I grieve the Spirit of God. So ashamed. Hopefully the majority of the time, I course correct and let His love control me.

Jesus was humble and gentle. Jesus exuded patience and love. His Spirit gives us the power, desire and enablement to imitate Him. Oh, I want that more than anything. I want to sit at His feet and learn, to soak in all His goodness.

He calls us to that very thing. “Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” ~Matthew 11:28-30
