This verse is a perfect example of how Old Testament scripture is about the at-that-time-current-events as well as a fast-forwarding to Jesus Christ.

Here, God was promising to continually restore Israel, even though they would fall HARD over and over again. The connection to Jesus is in the words ‘exchange’and life’; ‘men, nations and people’ . Jesus became man [people and nations] to take our place - in exchange for our lives.

Throughout the Bible, the nation of Israel as ‘the people of God’ represents humanity as a whole. God uses Israel’s failings and triumphs to illustrate what we could call ‘the history of the world’; we can see how much He loves His creation and His ever-present Presence.

 “For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.” ~1 Corinthians 15:22

Jesus explicitly stated His mission in John 12:47, saying, “I did not come to judge the world but to save the world”. And in 6:35, “I am the bread of life”.

John the baptizer said of Jesus: “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” ~John 1:29

We are precious and honored - words used to describe a beloved bride. He LOVES us. Unconditionally. And one day, our eyes will truly see. Until then, we can experience that love every day, even during tough times. He tells us, “Be still and know that I am God”.

Take a moment and breathe in that peace. Feel His joy. Embrace His love. Selah.
