“Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” ~John 1:29

“They shall come with weeping; and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way wherein they shall not stumble” ~Jeremiah 31:9

This chapter is full of hope - God promises to restore His people. When you read all 40 verses, you can feel that joyful anticipation, a bubbling up of expectation. Verse 31 and 33b “Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

Whenever you see “New Covenant”, think of Jesus. This is the promise of Jesus to all people, not just for Israel and Judah. Centuries later, Paul teaches the church in Corinth about the last supper as Jesus had said, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” The ‘people of God’ were now including the Gentiles (anyone who wasn’t a Jew) - the church was expanding.

That is God’s plan - His new covenant is for the world. Jesus said, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” ~John 6:51 Just as we need bread [food] to live, we need Jesus, Who is Life itself.
