“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” ~Philippians 1:6

“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” ~Philippians 1:6

This is one of those verses that my Mom would send to her college-attending kids. I remember reading the words and thinking, “Aw, that’s sweet”, then forgetting them as I had “more important things” to focus on. Agh! If I could have a redo, many unnecessary self-inflicted messy moments could be eliminated.

Francois du Toit translates this passage in these words: “Confident that He who is the initiator of the good work within you is also the one who executes its completeness as mirrored in Jesus Christ, Who is the light of day. He is the fullness of time. He quotes Ecclesiastes 3:15 “that which has been is now; and that which is to be has already been!”

Sounds like one of those riddles…but it so clearly (somewhat clearly) describes the heavenly realm that exists outside of time. Time was created by God for humankind. God is present to all things at all times. That is how He sees us in His Son, perfect and already seated in heavenly places. That is why Jesus is already victorious over death. The end of the book has already been written. Knowing the outcome and our eternal destiny is what keeps us truckin' along, giving us the abiilty to do hard things. God’s promises = Hope. And that hope is guaranteed One Hundred percent because it is in Jesus Christ. He IS our hope!
