Blessing Others

One of your greatest tests, going through storms

One of your greatest tests will be when you are able to bless someone else while you are going through your own storm.

This is powerful - blessing others while you are embroiled in trouble. I think of Jesus, exhausted from a long day, longing to talk with His Father, having compassion on the crowd and continuing to teach and heal. Or while on the cross, asking His beloved friend to take care of His mom.

Sometimes we are placed in difficult situations so we can help others. Even if the only help is to pray. I remember a certain plane ride - I was in the very last row in the middle between a Laurel and Hardy. Neither talked to me. The large one actually fell asleep on my shoulder. I.do.not.like.that. I wanted to scream to high heaven. He smelled bad. I picture him drooling, although that may be an exaggeration. Ugh, even the memory makes me twitch.

But something changed in me - I realized that I needed to take the focus off my own pity party. I started to pray for them. Then our plane entered some mighty turbulence. I could see lightening and billowing clouds out the window (the men slept on). We landed safely, but the power was out at the airport, delaying our luggage. No AC meant sloggy thick warm air. Ah, the misery! People were sitting everywhere - some even lying on the still conveyor belt. I started to methodically prayer for each group of people. As soon as I finished with the last person, guess what? The conveyor started up and the very first piece of luggage was a bright purple bag - mine! Maybe God knew I was at my breaking point, or maybe it was His way of showing me that I passed this test - Not sure, but oh how He blessed me that day, in a literal and metaphorical storm!

If you are able, listen to the song by Casting Crowns, "Praise You in this Storm"

And I'll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
And every tear I've cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

Have a blessed day!
