"But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” ~Joshua 24:15

“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” ~Joshua 24:15

My Mom had that last sentence displayed in our house my whole life. I also have this on the wall in my own home. I don’t remember copying her - maybe it was a subconscious decision, or perhaps it is our family ‘motto’ - my daughter also has it in her home.

Joshua told the Israelites to choose. Based on everything they had seen and experienced, there really was only one choice. Joshua knew there was no other option.

We don’t have alternates either. The only choice is life and that is in Jesus Christ. Everything we read in the Bible was written so that we may see HIM. Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life”. No human would choose death over life - the #1 instinct we have is for survival.

We not only survive in Jesus, but thrive! We’re like plants who start out as a seed, growing, blooming and eventually bearing fruit. Let our prayer be that those who live in darkness will be confronted with the one choice, Jesus Christ.

Father, give us opportunities to reach those who don’t know You. And when You present them to us, keep us from shying away or ignoring Your answer to our prayer. We are confident that You will give us the words needed at that exact moment. Or maybe just action - loving in a time where it doesn't seem to be deserved. Thank you and Amen in the name of Your Son.
