“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it” ~2 Timothy 3:14

“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it” ~2 Timothy 3:14

This section of scripture shows us Paul encouraging Timothy, a young pastor in Ephesus who was part of a strong lineage of Godly teaching, his mother and grandmother, diligent to teach him scripture. They truly walked the talk.

This was one of Paul’s last writings from a prison in Rome, shortly before he was martyred. If you read the chapters of Timothy, you can feel the emotional depths of Paul in his personal connection to Timothy. A few verses before (2 Tim 3:10), he writes, “As my close associate and travel companion, you fully participate in everything that my teaching and life proclaims; you share my resolve, my belief, my fortitude, my love, my perseverance”. He felt this so strongly that he told the people of Philippi, “I trust the Lord that I will be able to send Timothy to you soon, this will be as if I am there personally with you!”

My cousin became a Christian at the age of 50. He recently told me how much he regrets growing up not knowing scripture, feeling like he missed out, lacking the confidence to witness to others. What a gift it is to have faithful parents, but it is never too late to learn about Jesus! God will restore all the years and redeem the time ‘lost’.

“I will repay you for the years eaten by locusts” ~Joel 2:25

I like to imagine that Jesus will one day say, “I’m sending you, because I know that you will represent Me.” Ahhh….
