Clothe Yourselves

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” ~Colossians 3:12

“Know this, my dear brothers and sisters: let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger— for human anger doesn’t produce the righteousness of God. “ ~James 1:19-20

In the letter to the Colossians, Paul is writing that because we are God’s people, our whole persona should shine with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, as apparent as the clothes we wear. It is interesting that these attributes are internal and can only be demonstrated by our actions. It’s the whole package of a follower of Christ.

Verses 14 and 15 go on to say: “But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfect harmony. Let the shalom of Messiah rule in your hearts—to this shalom you were surely called in one body. Also be thankful.”

‘Let the shalom of Messiah rule in your hearts’…isn’t that beautiful? Shalom encompasses a multitude of meanings, foremost, peace-that-only-God-can-give. That brings unity in the community of faith - we are one. We should act like it!
