Delight in the Lord

“Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” ~Psalm 37:4

“Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” ~Psalm 37:4

Back when I started really getting interested in the Word, I made a list of favorite verses, ones that spoke to me. This made the top ten. I knew that I was delighting in the Lord - every moment was spent reading, studying or listening. I was borderline obsessed. I took this verse personally and I knew that my desires had to line up with God’s will or they would go unanswered.

God used that time to teach me about myself, about prayer, about Him. I came to realize that the greatest desire of our heart is Jesus, whether we know it or not. And that is what this verse meant to the Israelites when it was written. More than anything, they longed for the promised Messiah, whom they expected would be a royal king, overthrowing all oppression. Little did they know that His throne would be the cross and His crown made of thorns.

That earthly rule transcended everything anyone had ever imagined. Those delighting in Him saw with the eyes of their heart that the Kingdom of God had come to dwell with them, bringing love, joy and peace in the Holy Spirit. Thousands were healed from disease and demonic possession, just a taste of what is still to come. We live in the ‘Now, Not Yet’ - Jesus has conquered. He is victorious. But we are waiting, sometimes not-so-patiently, for the final chapter when Death dies and all will be made right.

Maybe, just maybe, that time would come sooner if more delighted themselves in the Lord. “Magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.” [Jesus said,]"Yes, I am coming soon!" Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!” ~Psalm 34:3 ~Revelation 22:20

Have a blessed day!
