Dead to the Law
‘So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God.” ~Romans 7:4
What does it mean to die to the law? That's pretty confusing wording. When Paul says "you also died to the law" he means we are no longer bound by the law. We don't belong to the law anymore. We "belong to another." Specifically, Jesus.
When Jesus was raised from the dead, we no longer had to worry about following the 613 laws of the Old Testament. Yeah, six hundred and thirteen! That's a lot!
The concept of dying to the law can be difficult to grasp, as we are so accustomed to rules and regulations governing our behavior. However, through faith in Jesus, we are set free from the burden of trying to earn our salvation through obedience to the law. Instead, we are empowered to live a life of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control, as outlined in Galatians 5:22-23.
This passage serves as a reminder that our salvation is not dependent on us and our efforts. It depends on the work of Jesus on the cross. As we surrender our lives to Him and allow the Holy Spirit to work in us, we are able to live a life that honors God and bears fruit for His Kingdom
Have a blessed day!
