“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in Me.” ~John 14:1

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in Me.” ~John 14:1
Jesus is offering comfort, encouragement and hope during what we know as The Last Supper. His disciples have no idea of what is coming that very night. “I am leaving for a time, but I’ll be back. There are mansions where My Father lives and I’ll be making YOUR room ready. My Father and I are One and the same. When you look at Me, you are seeing the Father. And the only way to Him is through Me.”
I wonder if they could feel the gravity of what Jesus was saying, or how He spoke. Did they feel a premonition? Jesus had just washed their feet, Judas had left the table, and Peter told by his Lord that he would deny Him three times by morning. This was most assuredly not the typical Passover meal.
Jesus was inaugurating a new covenant. The TRUE Passover where all previous Passovers are put in the shadow - they were just a forecast of the one and only. 1 Peter 3:18 states, “For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.”
I believe that Jesus was crucified at the time when the perfect lambs were being slaughtered for the historical Passover. The symbolism throughout scripture is astonishing, exciting and wonderful. I suspect that we may be discovering this for eternity!
