Do Not Throw Away Your Confidence

“So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded” ~Hebrews 10:35

Confidence is such an attractive trait. Paired with a smile, it’s appealing and magnetizing. The contrast is striking. I think of a young girl who is beautiful but shy, shrinking against the furniture when she enters a room. Her beauty is overshadowed by her uncertainty and doubt. You can feel nothing but pity for her.

But confidence draws. In this part of the book of Hebrews, the author is giving a pep-talk, reminding the readers of their previous courage during prosecution. He said, “Remember the days when you first learned the truth. You had a hard struggle with much suffering, but you continued strong. 
Sometimes people said hateful things to you and mistreated you in public. And sometimes you helped others who were being treated that same way.  Yes, you helped them in prison and shared in their suffering. And you were still happy when everything you owned was taken away from you. You continued to be happy, because you knew that you had something much better—something that would continue forever.” ~Hebrews 10:32-34

Would you be happy if the government took everything you owned??? We complain to high heaven when our food bill goes up. Imagine if it was your house, your car, all your possessions. Wow. We have NO IDEA of what that is like. Let us be like those first century Christians. Let us have the joy of the hope in the Lord. Let us trust in His promises. He IS coming back! For you and for me. Be confident in that hope! Come quickly Lord Jesus! ~Revelation 22:20
