Faith Family Freedom

This is a day that we celebrate our country. Freedom from tyranny. But the ultimate freedom is in Jesus Christ. Gal 5:1  "Christ has set us free! This means we are really free. Now hold on to your freedom and don't ever become slaves of the Law again."

Paul spoke these words to a people under tyranny from the Romans. He wasn't speaking of the Roman laws, but of the old Jewish law. Jesus came to bring a new covenant - one of love and forgiveness. He said, "Do not think that I have come to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to destroy but to fulfill." The word fulfill, also means to complete. The law was "a shadow of good things to come" and He made the law complete so that no one ever again would have to make sacrifices to atone for breaking the Jewish law. Jesus Christ was the once-and-for-all sacrifice. (Heb 10:10).

This is true freedom - a freedom from the bondage of sin, a "yoke of slavery". The exile of the Israelites from Egypt was a living example of this liberty.
We may be ruled by others, we may feel the pressure of unfair governmental law, we may live in an abusive household, or have unfair teachers, but we are truly free - no one has control over our hearts.

Jesus said, "The truth is, everyone who sins is a slave—a slave to sin.
A slave does not stay with a family forever. But a son belongs to the family forever. So if the Son makes you free, you are really free. (John 8:34-36)

Today, as we celebrate our land, won by the blood and sacrifice of our forefathers, let us also meditate on our freedom, won by the blood and sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Have a blessed day!
