For God So Loved the World

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” ~ John 3:16

This is the greatest love story ever told and it’s written on our hearts. The old stone tablets with the law of the old covenant replaced with fleshly tablets of the new covenant. A covenant of love instead of a covenant of law.

When you think about it, when we love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and love our neighbor as ourselves, we automatically fulfill the law! If you love your neighbor, you would not covet his possessions, or murder, for example. If we love God, we will not worship another.

This new covenant came with Jesus Christ. Dallas Willard, author, scholar, philosopher said, "He does not call us to do what he did but to BE as he was, permeated with love." It is God’s own love in which we are able to love others. This power enables us to love the unlovable, forgive the unforgivable and rebuild the broken. Our eternal life starts now! We rise out of the ashes of our lives and are fueled by the Holy Spirit to love. He pours the love of God into our hearts [Romans 5:5] and we have access to that love 24/7. Love that is meant to be shared.

Yes it is sometimes hard, impossible even, “but with God all things are possible.” ~Matthew 19:26b
