"For He will come like a pent-up flood that the breath of the Lord drives along.” ~Isaiah 59:19

“From the west, people will fear the name of the Lord, and from the rising of the sun, they will revere His glory. For He will come like a pent-up flood that the breath of the Lord drives along.” ~Isaiah 59:19

Isaiah is proclaiming about the coming of Christ Jesus, the promised Messiah. It gives the sense that God has been holding this back, waiting for the right time as pressure builds. The tension is tangible, Creation groans with anticipation.

Have you ever seen a dam release water? Or stood at Niagara Falls? Or watched footage of a Tsunami rushing to land? This is the image that Isaiah is portraying in his poetic passage.

Scripture tells us that God was waiting for “the fullness of time” before He sent His Son. [Galatians 4:4]. What does this mean? BibleAsk defines the phrase this way: “The term “fullness of time” implies a specific, appointed time that fulfills God’s sovereign plan. In biblical terms, this involves a convergence of various historical, social, and spiritual factors that were perfectly aligned for the arrival of Jesus Christ.”

We know that God is perfect. We know His plans are perfect. We know that Jesus will come again at another ‘fullness of time”. It’s hard to wait, even when we rest in the knowledge the God has our back.

Rom 8:18  “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”

In the meantime, let us walk in the victory that we have in Jesus!
