For He Will Command His Angels

“For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;” Psalm 91:11

The author of this Psalm is praising God and encouraging readers to do the same. Did he know that he was also prophesying about the coming Messiah? I love to repeat, “everything points to Jesus Christ” and this is no exception.

Even Satan knows this scripture - let’s fast forward to the time when Jesus was about to begin His earthly ministry. He had just been baptized in the Jordan River by His cousin, John and the Spirit led Him out into the wilderness surrounding Galilee. Satan appeared and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels orders concerning you,' and, 'In their hands they will lift you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.' "Jesus counters with more scripture. When Satan finally left Him after 40 days, Matthew 4:11 fulfills the Psalmist’s prophecy: “Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.”

Many times we see this: “Then an angel from heaven appeared to Him and gave Him strength (Luke 22:43). “Do you think that I cannot now appeal to My Father, and He will at once send Me more than twelve legions of angels?”(Matthew 26:53).

In his book Angels: God's Secret Agents, Billy Graham writes: "The angels would have come to the cross to rescue the King of kings, but because of His love for the human race and because He knew it was only through His death that they could be saved, He refused to call for their help. The angels were under orders not to intervene at this terrible, holy moment. Even the angels could not minister to the Son of God at Calvary. He died alone in order to take the full death penalty you and I deserved."

We have that same protection. We talked lightly of our Guardian Angels, but just wait until we see how many times catastrophe was held back. Sometimes I pray for mine. Weird? Maybe. But my very life is proof of this. Ask me about it some time. So grateful.

Have a blessed day!
