Fruit of the Spirit

“The Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things as these.” ~Galatians 5:22-23

Today, as our nation celebrates Memorial day, we become softer, kinder, more considerate somehow.  The Spirit of God seems to be bringing these attributes to the surface of our country’s consciousness. Maybe it’s because it is a time to reflect and remember the blood shed to secure our freedom - a healing after a brutal Civil War, a reminder that we are one.

These “fruits of the Spirit” could be the autobiography of Jesus Christ, the Civil War, humanity itself. It was His shed blood that guaranteed our liberty. “Freedom is what we have—Christ has set us free!” ~Galatians 5:1a “Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood” ~Revelation 1:5

We are one, awaiting His return. All creation groaning in anticipation. “Creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.  And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.  ~Romans 8:21-23

Today, listen for the Holy Spirit Who is actively present amongst us. Let your mind, soul, body and spirit be saturated with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Be like Jesus.
