God Commands Nature
In Job 37, Elihu, one of Job's friends, was telling him how God not only creates, but commands nature in every facet. "At God's command amazing things happen, wonderful things that we can't understand." Thunder, lightening, snow and rain.
We now know how thunder, lightening, snow and rain work, but in ancient cultures, "science" wasn't a thing - everything was attributed to the whim of a deity. But the concept is the same - God is in control. Even though it thunders due to heated air expanding and contracting rapidly as the temperature rapidly fluctuates, God created the process that makes that happen.
I starting thinking about how much we take for granted. I had to look up the cause of thunder and lightening. I vaguely know why it snows and rains, but honestly, unless it's your job, or your three-year old asks why 100 times one day, I'd bet that some of you are looking that up right now. We just believe it will snow when it gets cold or rains when the clouds get heavy.
We take our faith in God for granted, too. It's a gift - as Paul tells us in the letter to the Ephesians, "For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,". The faithfulness of Jesus Christ. He did all the work. Let's make 2022 the the year to embrace that gift with gratitude.
Have a blessed day! 💙
