God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all
Steven Hawking once proposed that heaven is a “fairy tale for people afraid of the dark”. Oxford mathematician John Lennox replied by saying, “Atheism is a fairy tale for those afraid of the Light.” Another John - the apostle says in 1 John 5:1b, "God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all." 1 John 1:5b.
Candle light is so intoxicating - the colors are heat itself - orange, red, yellow, white - they twist and turn, dancing in a transparent fluidity. Add a mirror and the reflected flame sparkles and shines, becoming even brighter. There is something about candle light - it appeals not only to our eyes, but to our souls, as well. Charles Dickens said "Remembrance, like candle light, burns brightest at Christmas." Why is that? It's the fire in our being, our longing for love.
Christmas Eve services often have a candlelight singing of Silent Night. Flames are passed from person to person until the entire church glows. Have you ever noticed that the illumination grows brighter with each lit wick? James Keller said that "a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle".
This is how the good news of Jesus spreads! Flame by flame, death’s dark shadows put to flight. Light swallows up darkness and dawn is quickly approaching. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness does not comprehend it. Radiant beams stream from His holy face with the dawn of redeeming grace. Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel, God is with us, God became us - to transfer us from the kingdom of darkness into His kingdom of Light..
Oh, worship Christ, the newborn King. He shall reign forever and ever!!
