Good Stewards of Grace
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace” ~1 Peter 4:10
Every so often, ‘spiritual gifts' becomes a big deal - there are tests to take to see which one you have. Ugh - I always feel like I have my shoes on the wrong feet when that subject is brought up. I’ve seen them weaponized - “You HAVE to do such-and-such, you have that gift”.
But here, Peter talks about the variety of God’s gifts That tells me that the list is endless and designed specifically for each person. We could also call them talents. Did God give you a beautiful voice? Then sing, acknowledging that it has come from Him. Are you athletic? There are many ways to use that ability to help others. Are you good with kids? They are ripe for learning about Jesus.
Regarding spiritual gifts (written by Melissa Henderson): “Every gift from God is special and important. We are created by God, and He loves us. By acknowledging the spiritual gifts from God, we are glorifying Him. Each gift has the ability to help draw others to a relationship with the Lord. God’s people are like a body with many parts, yet those parts work together. One body part is not better than another. Every person has a purpose and is gifted by the Holy Spirit.”
God has shown you His grace in many different ways. Use whatever gift He has given you in a way that will best serve each other. Whatever gift. There is no competition. And He will provide you with a way to use that gift. Imagine a parent giving a child a surfboard if they live in the mountains. That would be ridiculous. Our Heavenly Father not only gives the perfect gift to you, to me, to all of His children, but the opportunity to use it to spread His love.
Have a blessed day!
