Grow Up In Salvation

“Like newborn babies, crave pure spirtual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.” ~1 Peter 2:2

Have you ever seen a hungry baby? Oh, the intensity - their whole body is engaged in this furious cry. Nothing can satisfy except that milk. Did you know that breast milk is LIVE? It changes according to the baby’s needs, whether they need extra antibodies to fight off sickness, or extra fat, or get this…hormones to help them sleep - the composition of breast milk is different at night. It even is customized whether made for male or female!

Peter is comparing the craving of milk by newborns to how we should burn for the word of God. It, too, is ALIVE!

Heb 4:12a  “For the word of God is living and active..”

Jeremiah 20:9b “His word is in my heart like a fire”

The more we learn, the more mature we become in “our salvation”, which is our spiritual life. Just as babies grow and begin to need solid food, we need to delve into the deeper things of scripture. I remember wondering why some of my friends had to learn the ten commandments and the beatitudes and then they “graduated”. Learning is not an obligation, it is a way of life, a privledge. But just as a baby needs comforted, so God does the same for us thru His Word. It suits every need we have. Amazing grace!
