Guide Me In Your Truth
“Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.” ~Psalm 25:5
Do you remember your favorite teacher? Or the one who had the most impact on your life? For me, that was my 6th grade teacher, Mrs. N. I hadn’t had a great 5th grade year and came into 6th grade feeling stupid. Well, Mrs. N saw something in me; she pushed & encouraged until uncertainty gained a footing and grew wings. (I will always spell necessary correctly - NEC-ES-SA-RY - which I chant every time I write that word haha!)
The point is that teachers are critical to how we learn. We have the greatest teacher of all - each one of us. No one has better access - we just have to ask. James 1:5 says, “if anyone needs wisdom, just ask God and He will give it to you, no questions asked”. One of the first verses I memorized intentionally and without motive was Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” When Jesus spoke these words, the Pharisees were putting huge weights of the law on the people. They were THE TEACHERS and didn’t appreciate getting messed with. Jesus was bringing a new way - a way of love not law, rest not religion, faith in practice not in a point system.
It seems kind of strange to have God for your teacher. But that is why He sent His Spirit to us - the Holy Spirit, Who teaches and guides and comforts. He lives within us, becomes part of our thinking and doing. Sure, we can and do squash Him, but He never leaves us. We are body, soul and spirit…forever!
Have a blessed day!
