Have Not Seen
“Jesus said to him, "Because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." ~John 20:29
Jesus is talking to “Doubting Thomas” - wouldn’t it be awful to be remembered in such a way? Especially in regards to the Lord - ahhhh! But, it reveals a truth that is something to grab hold of! Let’s read that again…Blessed are those who have NOT seen and still believe. That is us!!!
I remember when that lightbulb came on, thinking, wow! That’s ALOT. Then I started wondering about the word ‘blessed’ - it’s used so often today, overused I think. Picture someone with hand on heart, head tilted, saying, “I am so blessed” when their kid makes the honor role or scores at the game. It’s almost a way to say, “I’m better than you”.
But when Jesus taught, blessed meant “wholeness. Becoming whole. The happiness as God knows.” When we believe, we are becoming complete as God intends! Happier than one of Jesus' disciples?? Hard to imagine, isn’t it? Seeing the resurrected Jesus brought Thomas to say, “My Lord and my God!” (That has always sent shivers down my spine - when I hear OMG aimlessly spouted over and over again, my insides die a little.)
Believing without seeing is echoed when Paul says that we walk by faith and not by sight. That is harder for some than others, but God can make it possible. And we have just learned that we can ask Him to help our unbelief! ~Mark 9:24
My Lord and my God, help us when our faith is low. Give us the comfort of knowing that even though we can’t see through the tunnel of problems, there is light at the end. Boost our faith, help our unbelief and continue to perfect us in Your love. Amen
