He Cares for You

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you” ~1 Peter 5:7

This is another one of those verses that made my top 10.  And that was before anxiety became such a hot topic. Other translations use ‘worries' or 'cares’. There is nothing new under the sun, but it seems that we are more willing to name and share our struggles nowadays.

I wrote this last year: ‘In a world riddled with anxiety, panic attacks and depression, a cure would be a literal god-send. In the past 12 months, there have been over 40 million cases of anxiety disorder diagnosed.’ Currently, experts report that 301 MILLION people have anxiety worldwide. Those are staggering numbers.

When Peter wrote this verse, he was quoting Psalms 55:22 "Turn your burdens over to the LORD, and he will take care of you. He will never let the righteous person stumble." Read them back to back and there is a sense of comfort that we all need from time to time.

Notice that it does not say your anxiety will disappear when turned over to God. But it encourages us to include Him in our pain.  When you cast something, you throw it away from you.  This verse gives the impression that God will catch your anxieties. Verse 6 speaks of humbling ourselves before God.  In other words, if we acknowledge that we cannot handle the situation ourselves and hand it over...no, HURL it away...God will help us deal.

We can't ignore those last four words - "He cares for you".  Most people have someone that they deeply love and would go to any lengths to help them. Take that to beyond infinity and that is how God feels about YOU. He doesn't want you to be troubled about anything. He will be there for you - go ahead and throw your worries at Him.  He will take them and lift you up as a result!
