He Comforts Us in All Our Troubles, so That We Can Comfort Others
"He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others." 2 Corinthians 1:4
Isn't it true that when we go through something, the most trusted advice comes from someone who has been in the same position? The most successful rehab programs are led by ex-abusers of whatever substance. Cancer survivors, Marriage counseling, you name it - because they can relate. And they have been there and made it! They know what it takes to triumph.
How much MORE can we rely on Jesus?! It's tempting to think, "Oh, He was perfect - there is no way He can understand what I'm going through." But, the Bible tells us in Hebrews 4:15 that "Jesus understands every weakness of ours, because he was tempted in every way that we are. But he did not sin!"
HE UNDERSTANDS EVERYTHING WE GO THROUGH. The next verse goes on to say, "So whenever we are in need, we should come bravely before the throne of our merciful God. There we will be treated with undeserved kindness, and we will find help."
The Greek word for comfort is also used to describe the Holy Spirit - the Spirit of God. Read 2 Cor 1:4 again. When we comfort others, it is the Holy Spirit doing the comforting. God working THOUGH us to help those in need! Does it make our troubles worth it? Perhaps. Did Jesus think the cross was worth it? I'm confident He would reply with a resounding YES!
2 Corinthians 4:17 For our present trouble, which is only for a short time, is working out for us a much greater weight of glory;
Have a blessed day!
