He Will Cover You with His Feathers
"He will cover you with His feathers and under His wings you will find refuge" Psalm 91:4.
Whether the author of this Psalm was Moses or David (there is discussion about that), both men spent many years as a fugitive, hiding in the caves, surrounded by nature and all there is to experience in the great outdoors. He must have seen a mother bird gathering her chicks under her wings to protect them from the weather, or from fire, at the expense of her own life.
One of the most heartbreaking photos recently was taken during the western wildfires. A mother hen, scorched, formed a protective shell around her surviving babies. It caught my breath. And took my mind to one of the most poignant sentences uttered by Jesus:
Luke 13:34 "Jerusalem, Jerusalem! You kill the prophets. You stone to death the people God has sent to you. How many times I wanted to help your people. I wanted to gather them together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. But you did not let me."
Jesus became that mother hen. As John 12:32 states, "when I am lifted up, I will draw all to Myself". On the cross, He suffered hell for us; He was scorched and gave His life so that we may live forever with Him. "I am the one who lives. I was dead, but look, I am alive forever and ever!"
Thank you, Jesus.
Have a blessed day!
