Hiding Place and Shield
“You are my hiding place and my shield; I have put my hope in Your word.” ~Psalm 119:114
Every time I see “hiding place”, I think of the book by the same name written by Corrie ten Boom - she describes her experience during the Holocaust of World War II. Her family hid many Jewish families from the Nazis in their home - they were betrayed and shipped to a concentration camp. Corrie and her sister were imprisoned together and they held secret worship services in their barracks. It was risky, but as she wrote, “God sent us an infestation of fleas to keep the guards away”, Corrie was holding onto a hope that God would never leave them.
Her sister died 12 days before Corrie was released due to a clerical error! One week later, her fellow barrack-mates were sent to the gas chamber. Wow. God had work for Corrie to do - she spoke hope into many hearts as she spoke around the world. But the most impactful change happened in her own heart - she came face to face with a former guard who had tormented her sister and Corrie realized that she hadn’t forgiven him. She went to her own ‘hiding place’ - prayer with her Lord and poured out her soul. Eventually her heart softened.
Only God could do this. He can do this for you! Let go of a bitter heart. My motivation is remembering that Jesus forgave those who crucified Him (that is all of us when you think about it). “Because Christ also died once for our sins, the just for the unjust: that he might offer us to God, being put to death indeed in the flesh, but enlivened in the spirit” 1Peter 3:18
Have a blessed day!
