Heavenly Father, I pray that you teach us to worship like this! That we never stop honoring Your name in thought, word and deed, and to praise you day and night.
The Jews had returned home to Jerusalem after 70 years in captivity because Nebuchadnezzar was tired of Judah’s rebellion and had destroyed Jerusalem and burned their temple to the ground. On their return, the first thing they wanted to do was rebuild the Temple. Ezra tells us that the day they finished laying the foundation of the Temple was a day of celebration. Because of their sin, they had lost their Temple, but now because of God’s enduring love, they were getting it back. God had repeatedly given them second, third and fourth chances to do things right, but they wouldn’t listen, so they were punished and exiled. But they acknowledged that God kept His promise to bring them home and to love them, and He did.
