How to Stay Consistent with Your Quiet Time (Even When Life Gets Busy)

If you’ve ever started a quiet time routine with the best intentions… only to fall off track a few days later, you’re not alone.

If you’ve been wondering how to stay consistent with your quiet time, again... you’re not alone.

One day you feel inspired, your Bible is open, your heart is ready…
and the next thing you know, life gets busy, you miss a day (or five), and suddenly it feels hard to start again.

It’s not that you don’t want to spend time with God.
It’s just that consistency feels harder than it should.

Let’s talk about how to gently build a quiet time that actually fits your life—not one that leaves you feeling behind.

1. Let Go of the “Perfect Quiet Time” (A Key to Staying Consistent)

One of the biggest reasons we struggle with consistency is because we’ve created an expectation we can’t keep.

We think it has to be:

  • Long

  • Deep

  • Quiet

  • Distraction-free

  • The same every day

But real life doesn’t always look like that.

A quiet moment with God—even 5–10 minutes—is still meaningful.

Consistency grows when we stop trying to make it perfect… and start making it possible.

2. Remove the “What Should I Do Today?” Question

This is a big one.

So many women sit down, open their Bible… and then feel stuck.

Where should I read?
What should I write?
What should I focus on?

That hesitation alone can stop you before you even begin.

When you already have:

  • A simple plan

  • A Scripture to read

  • A prompt to reflect on

…it becomes so much easier to just start.

3. Keep It Simple and Repeatable

Consistency doesn’t come from doing more—it comes from doing something simple again and again.

Try a gentle rhythm like:

  • Read a short Scripture

  • Reflect on what stood out

  • Write a few thoughts or a prayer

That’s it.

You don’t need a complicated system.
You just need something you can return to, day after day.

4. Create a Space You Look Forward To

Your quiet time doesn’t have to feel like another task on your to-do list.

Light a candle.
Grab your favorite pen.
Sit in your favorite chair.

Make it feel peaceful… not pressured.

When your quiet time feels inviting, you’re much more likely to come back to it.

5. Give Yourself Grace When You Miss a Day

This might be the most important one.

Missing a day doesn’t mean you’ve failed.
It doesn’t mean you have to “start over.”

It simply means… you begin again.

God isn’t keeping score.
He’s simply inviting you back.

One of the things I’ve found most helpful in staying consistent is removing the pressure of planning everything myself.

That’s actually why I created Draw Near Daily.

Each month, you receive simple, beautifully designed Scripture pages with prompts already laid out for you—so you can sit down and begin without overthinking it.

No wondering what to read.
No pressure to keep up.
Just a gentle, guided way to spend time with God at your own pace.

If you’ve been struggling to stay consistent, maybe the answer isn’t trying harder…

Maybe it’s making it simpler.

Start small.
Give yourself grace.
And trust that even the smallest moments spent with God truly matter.

A Simple Way to Stay Consistent with Your Quiet Time

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, remember:

  • Keep it simple

  • Let go of perfection

  • Start small and return often

Consistency isn’t about doing more…
it’s about coming back, again and again.
