Humble Beginnings
"Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be." ~Job 8:7
Job had lost everything - his children, his wealth and health, everything except his nagging hateful wife...and finger-pointing friends, who meant well, but were not very helpful. But he was reminded that even though he would be starting over, God was with him and his future was bright.
Let's leap forward, probably over 1000 years to the time of Zechariah (510-ish BC). His mission was to start the rebuilding of the temple that had been destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 BC. Talk about humble beginnings!
That glorious temple - how could they ever duplicate that? He tells them, "Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.." ~Zech 4:10a
All of scripture points to Jesus and this is no exception. As we travel to 33 AD we see that Christianity started with a seemingly-failed prophet/healer. But a small group of believers had the power of the Almighty God in them. The humblest of Kings, born in a stable, now reigns on high, the King of kings and Lord of lords, the Savior of the world. Because of HIM, we reign in life.
~Rom 5:17 "For if by the offense of the one man [Adam] death reigned through the one man, much more those receiving the abundance of the grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ."
Most days, we don't feel very royal. [you are, you know!] But when we do! Ah! It's impossible to even imagine it! Don't despair - the best, the VERY BEST, is yet to come! Because of Jesus.
