“I delight in Your commands because I love them" ~Psalm 119:47-48

“I delight in Your commands because I love them. I reach out for Your commands, which I love, that I may meditate on Your decrees.” ~Psalm 119:47-48

David, the author of most of the Psalms, is different than many followers of the One Living God. He meditates on the His word. Meditation in other religions involves the emptying of one’s mind. But not here. This is an active participation, a dynamic relationship that ebbs and flows with the spiritual needs of one engaging in the Word.

“I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember Your wonders of old. I will ponder all Your work, and meditate on Your mighty deeds.” ~Psalm 77:11-12

“My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise You with joyful lips, when I remember You upon my bed, and meditate on You in the watches of the night” ~Psalm 63:5-6

This leads to something pretty special: “But this is the one to whom I will look favorably: to the one who is humble and contrite in spirit, and who trembles at My word." ~Isaiah 66:2

“He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” ~Hebrews 11:6b

The apostle Paul commends the Bereans of Berea for their open-mindedness, eagerness, and diligence in seeking the truth. This is recorded in Acts 17:11, where he says:

“Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true”

Let us also be eager to meditate on the Word of God - to research and dig deeply into the scriptures - to pray for direction, discernment and diligence. To increase in the love and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
