I have come into the world as a light
“I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” ~John 12:46
Have you ever noticed that freedom is represented by light throughout the whole Bible? Even in secular society, prisoners are often kept in darkness. I’d guess that most of us don’t like the dark because we have no control over what we can’t see. In fact, most children are afraid of the dark, and 11% of adults develop an irrational phobia, so much so that it interferes with functional living.
Sin is bondage, an impossibly cruel master. Jesus freed the world from this prison but we wait for the ‘Coming of the Lord’ to see this ‘live’. And what a wait this has been! It barely seems probable. Peter and Paul have given us encouragement in their letters - look how these stream together to give us great motivation to keep on plugging. They are talking to you! Listen…
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son. The night is almost finished. The day is almost here. So we should stop doing whatever belongs to darkness. We should prepare ourselves to fight evil with the weapons that belong to the light. For once you were darkness, but now in union with the Lord you are light. Walk as children of light!”
