I Know That My Redeemer Lives

I know that my redeemer lives

"I know that my redeemer lives and that in the end, He will stand on the earth" Job 19:25

The book of Job was one of the earliest books of the Bible. Scholars believe that he lived around the time of Abraham, who died in 1771 BC.

Job had no idea of the conversation between God and Satan; he only knows that he did nothing to "deserve the punishment" that he was given. He searched and searched his heart and memory for something that he did wrong. He and his friends are representative of how we still think - "why me?" and "Bad things should only happen to bad people". He raged to God in frustration. His friends even said to him, "Come on! You had to offend God somehow." But Job's faith remained steadfast. No wonder that God commended him to all the heavenly beings.

Every so often, I ponder on Job, wondering if I would be able to hold on to that thread of hope. He lost everything, except his wife LOL. (she was almost worse than all the other things put together). And Job did not have scripture to read, or the Holy Spirit to comfort him. This was 18 centuries before Christ! And yet, Job saw that Jesus would come to redeem creation. He knew that God would indeed stand on the earth. Other translations say, "and He will defend me".

THAT hope is what sustained him. That same hope can be our life preserver when we're drowning - Jesus Christ is our hope and nothing can steal that from our soul, no matter what happens to us physically or mentally.

I know my Redeemer lives
I know my redeemer lives
All of creation testifies
This life within me cries
I know my redeemer lives

Have a blessed day!
