If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.
“And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.” ~James 5:15
My daughter lives in a military town where many of the husbands are deployed for months at a time. Watching these moms orchestrate the activities of 2 or more kids is exhausting! Balls games, ballet lessons, and birthday parties. Swim lessons, soccer practice and school work. They all get it done, but only if they help each other. It truly is a symphony.
The phrase, ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ has its roots in African culture, emphasizing the importance of family and community. We see a version in almost every language around the world. The meaning has broadened to embrace any group effort needed to accomplish a goal.
This section of James is also about community, an environment of faith. The Greek word for ‘sick’ here also means weary and feeble. We need each other for encouragement, for support when our faith is low. Asking for prayer is sometimes hard - we don’t like to reveal any signs of weakness. But to FEEL others praying for you, to see answers almost immediately puts you on another plane. Its proof that the Almighty God of the Universe cares for you, deeply and relentlessly.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 “And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
Have a blessed day!
