In the Beginning
In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth - the familiar opening phrase of the Bible. Near its closing, we learn that Jesus IS the Beginning:
Rev 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Genesis 1:1 could be translated as, "In Jesus, God created the heaven and the earth.".
Paul reinforces this in his letter to the Colossians -
"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation,
because in Him all things were created, those in the heavens and those
on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or
authorities: all things have been created through Him and for Him.
And He is before all things, and in Him all things are held together.
And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the
firstborn from the dead, so that in all things He may have the
preeminence, For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should
dwell, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him,
whether things on the earth or things in the heavens, having made
peace through the blood of His cross."
John, the beloved apostle began his gospel with poetic praise of the preeminence of Jesus in John 1:1-4
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the
Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be
through Him, and without Him nothing came to be which has come to
be. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men."
All things point to Jesus - come, let us adore Him!
