"It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame.” ~Song of Songs 8:6

“Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame.” ~Song of Songs 8:6
This book is a love story. The lovers are Jesus and you. Jesus and me. Jesus and humankind. A pure love that is stronger than anything, eternally victorious and triumphant.
It’s difficult to grasp the enormity of that love. It is not the gushy giddy butterflies-in-my-stomach feeling of young lovers. It is more like the stories we see of the old man pushing his wife of 60 years in a wheelchair to see her beloved ocean. Or the son running a marathon, carrying his crippled father on his back.
This Song of Songs is so passionate that it might make you blush. J.R.McGee writes that the male Israelites were not even allowed to read it until they were 30 years old! He was advised as a young preacher to not speak of it until he was 60!
But as one who loves the Lord and recognizes that this song is a picture of our relationship with Him, it fills us with awe. The marriage bed is a gift - one that gives us a glimpse into the intensity and passion that we have access to in our personal journey with Jesus. He wants our red hot passion, not a tepid lukewarm waterbath. He loves us so much that He laid down His life for us.
