Let Us Not Become Weary in Doing Good

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” ~Galatians 6:9

I bet that every teacher can relate to this. Day after day. Month after month. Students just stare at you and yawn. Dead eyes, no interest, lack of engagement. It’s tough. There are days when you see a spark and that is what keeps you going. Then one day you are told that you were the best teacher they ever had, that you had changed their life. What??

That’s how life works. This verse in Galatians is part of the “you reap what you sow” section. “Karma”. Jesus teaches that a system of good works is now extinct, so what is Paul talking about? He had just taught about the fruits of the Spirit in Galatians 5 - it’s about acting in love. When we are walking with the Spirit, we will automatically do good. The problem is, we can’t stay in that state for long periods at a time. Some days, I feel like I’m on the repentance trampoline.

Keep on plugging for the good is eternal and the bad will be annihilated.

“If you plant in the field of your natural desires, from it you will gather the harvest of death; if you plant in the field of the Spirit, from the Spirit you will gather the harvest of eternal life.” ~Galatians 6:8

“Remember that the Lord will give everyone a reward for doing good.” ~Ephesians 6:8a
