Let Your Light Shine
'This little light of mine - I'm going to let it shine - Everywhere I go.' A fun children's gospel song written over 100 years ago! I sang it in Sunday School clear back in the 1960s and my children learned it in the 90s and hopefully little ones are still singing it today. Jesus taught it over 2000 years ago! Well, kind of. This song, and others, was based on the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 5:14-16, for example:
You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid.
Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but upon a candlestick, that it may shine to all that are in the house.
So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
How can we be light? Thankfully, we are created to understand metaphor - I've read that our minds think metaphorically more than they do literally. Light is cheerful, warming, protective, healing, and so much more! An attribute to fit you specifically!
Not everyone is a Pollyanna and that's OK. There needs to be a balance. Maybe your gift is to make people feel safe. Or to provide physical help for those in need. Anytime we are reflecting Jesus in our lives, we are shining with His light. Light draws like a magnet, as well. Be irresistible as you shine!
Hebrews 1:3a He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.
Have a blessed day!
