Light of the World

Steven Hawking once proposed that heaven is a “fairy tale for people afraid of the dark”.  Oxford mathematician John Lennox replied by saying, “Atheism is a fairy tale for those afraid of the Light.”  The Bible says, "God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all." ~1 John 1:5b. And Jesus says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never live in darkness. They will have the light of life." ~John 8:12

We have that light! We ARE that light. The light of God, the ‘let-there-be-light’ light, is part of our DNA. “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” ~John 1:4. What opportunities we have to be a light in a dark world!  People do not want "preached at" - words can be so empty.  But kindness and compassion, mercy and grace, forgiveness most of all - these are the kind of actions that reflect God's love - the same love that is poured into our hearts by His Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5).  The love that enables us to like the unlikeable, to befriend the unfriendly, the love that speaks volumes and gives the world a peek of our great and awesome God.

When we love on someone, it is the oxygen that ignites the spark of light in them. We can fan that flame into the light that overtakes the darkness trembling at His voice, the darkness that tried to hide. Love always wins.

Sing with me, how great is our God. And all will see how great is our God.

 you cover yourself with light.” ~Psalm 104:1-2 “I will praise you with all my heart, O Lord my God; I will proclaim your greatness forever.” ~Psalm 86:12
