Solomon often used apples in a poetic, artistic way. In the Song of Solomon, he uses the apple tree to portray beauty, desirability, fertility and the joy of love. In this proverb, apples represent well-chosen words and a wise deliverance.

It is beautiful how God took a common misconception about the apple and re-guided our thoughts. What misconception? If you ask people what fruit Eve ate in the garden of Eden, I bet 99% of them say, ‘the apple’. [I just asked my husband and he confirmed my theory :)]

Actually we don’t know what type of fruit was forbidden. We know that it WASN’T an apple because they do not grow in that part of the world. Perhaps God chose to keep that a secret to prevent humanity from doing exactly what we did to the apple. Instead, He prompted sayings like, ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away' and ‘she’s the apple of my eye’.

Most significantly, artists have used the apple as a symbol of salvation! It is NOT the sign of the Fall of mankind, it represents Reconciliation, Rescue and Redemption by God Himself. Jesus Christ is the Last Adam, the One Who brings life!
