Live By Faith
"For we live by faith and not by sight" 2 Cor 5:7 I think usually we apply this verse to important decisions we make in life. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Faith is taking the first step, even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” I've heard this verse in reference to Abraham waiting 25 years for his promised son, to Moses leading the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt to the promised land, to David relying on God's promised protection when facing Goliath. The idea is that even when a positive outcome looks impossible, with God on our side, we will conquer, no matter the odds.
But Paul was writing about death of believers and what happens to us when we die - he was assuring his readers (which includes us) that we will indeed have a place with God when our "earthly tent is folded". He compares our present body to a temporary nomadic residence and speaks of an eternal indestructible house as our heavenly body.
Doesn't that fuel our hope? That hope lets us draw near to God and when we do, we are able to worship Him in spirit and truth. Heb 7:19; John 4:24
As we endure in this present evil age, it is difficult to keep our eye on an unseen prize - the staircase that goes around the corner leading to unimagined happiness and blessing. But our faith keeps that hoped for promise alive in our hearts. Don't be discouraged. Hang onto this hope - promised and assured in Him!
Heb 12:2 "Having our eyes fixed on Jesus, the guide and end of our faith, who went through the pains of the cross, not caring for the shame, because of the joy which was before him, and who has now taken his place at the right hand of God's seat of power."
Have a blessed day!
