Make Known His Deeds
"Oh give thanks to the Lord. Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples" ~ 1 Chronicles 16:8
David is crowned king of Israel and the first thing he did was to re-establish a relationship with the Lord. The ark of the covenant had been captured by the Philistines during the reign of Saul. (Read this section of scripture if you want to see God's sense of humor - all these horrible things kept happening to their idols - they blamed the ark and had it shipped back to Israel - it ended up about 9 miles from Jerusalem, but no one had the desire to bring it home.)
David called together a great assembly from all the tribes and said, "If it seems good to you and if it is the will of the LORD our God, let us send word far and wide to the rest of our brothers throughout the territories of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites who are with them in their towns and pasturelands, to come and join us. Let us bring the ark of our God back to us, for we did not inquire of it during the reign of Saul." (1 Chronicles 13:2-3)
That's exactly what they did and what a party they had! Dancing and music and singing and praising God! This verse in 16:8 is part of the song David composed, probably on the spot - he was so filled with the spirit that he had little care for what anyone else thought!
Our thanksgiving should be like that! Full of joy for the Lord (and good food). But not just one day a year - everyday!
"Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!"ย
