Man Does Not Live by Bread Alone

"Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God" Matthew 4:4

This verse changed my life. I had grown up in the church, always believed, knew my eternal destiny was with God, but my faithfulness ebbed and flowed with life's circumstances. On March 22, 2004, I read this verse and felt like I was struck by lightning. It was a good thing that I was lying down, because I probably would have fallen to the floor. I'm not being dramatic - this time haha!

Here's my disjointed thought process - we need to eat every day to stay alive - and we need God's word EVERY DAY to stay alive. God's word is Christ. We need Christ every day. The only way to know Him is to read, study and talk to Him. The more we know someone the more we love them. Wow! I realized at that point that it was critical to my wellbeing to LIVE by making Jesus a priority.
I then had a sense of purpose, of knowing the reason for journeying through a life that brought me both joy and pain. God is good and I was able to see that silver lining even in the worst of times.

Just as He provided manna to the Israelites (bread from heaven) to keep them alive, He gave Himself as the Bread of Life to give life to all. What a magnificent demonstration of true love. "For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." Rom 8:38-39
