THIS is why I’ve always had a little crush on David. These words are so pure and heartfelt, yet poetic. They ask God to check internally and externally. “Look into my heart and make sure my intention is according to Your will. I want my words to reflect what I think. But most of all, that You are pleased with them”. He ends with a praise of who and what God is - Lord, Rock, Redeemer.
Other translations use words like ‘Protector’, ‘Strength’, ‘One who Rescues me’, ‘Defender’. Isn’t it a wondrous thing that we never run out nouns to describe God? And they are all accurate!
One source told me that there are 960 names or titles for God. I bet there is more than double that. He is EVERYTHING, to echo a popular phrase.
Father, we ask that our hearts and mouths work together to glorify You. We want our actions, our thoughts and our intents to be in step with Your Spirit. Let us shine Your light everywhere we go. Amen.
