My Hope Comes From Him

“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope comes from Him” ~Psalm 62:5

This Psalm is titled “My Soul Waits for God Alone” - that is hard to do! It is in our nature to react. Picture someone sideswiping your car. Ah! You want to….do something….yell, scream, throw things. Imagine a “friend” spreads rumors about you. You starting thinking of ways to get them back.

From the very beginning, God taught His people to wait. He tells Abraham, “Your seed will bless peoples from every nation”. Yet no children appeared. Abraham and Sarah got tired of waiting and tried to find a loophole. But God’s plan had them sit tight for 25 years before their promised son was born - symbolic of the wait for Messiah.

David was anointed as the king of Israel around 20 years before he finally sat on the throne. Exiled Israel had to endure captivity for 70 years before returning to their beloved Jerusalem.

Jesus was the greatest demonstration of waiting in silence. False accusations did not make Him lose his cool or react in any way. Imagine it! He KNEW he would be crucified. He could have demolished their hateful lies with one sentence, but He didn’t because He loved us so much. You. Me. Every person who has ever lived or ever will live. His soul waited for God, trusting with His very life.

Father, let us be still and wait for you. Keep us from reacting in anger to slights against us, knowing that Your plan is greater. We trust in You. Amen.
